Overcome High Cholesterol with Diet, Exercise
What is Cholesterol anyway?
Aside from that stuff that is bad for you, what is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is what is called a waxy steroid metabolite. Metabolite are chemicals associated with the metabolism, your body’s energy system.
Cholesterol has a lot of functions in the body:
- forms hormones
- makes up cell membranes
- composing bile acids
- making hormones, including sex hormones like testosterone
- synthesizing Vitamin D
- absorbing Vitamins A, D, E, and K
You need cholesterol, but you don’t need to actually eat ANY of it, because your body produces all that you need.
How does High Cholesterol Cause ED?
Cholesterol is present all throughout your body. It’s in your cells, floating along in your bloodstream, maybe even clogging up your arteries-but hopefully not.
Cholesterol could also be causing some problems sexually.
Remember how erections work: you become aroused and the brain sends signals down to the sex organs, so muscles and arteries in the penis relax, blood flows in, and the erection is born.
Since erections are about blood flow, you would have to predict that blockages in arteries and blood vessels interfere with erections, right?
It is so, and so much more than that.
If the testicles aren’t getting consistent blood flow, because cholesterol is damming the river, then they cannot create adequate testosterone. Testosterone is an essential hormone for male sexual stimulation and libido.
High cholesterol has the potential to prevent nitric oxide from being properly released into the bloodstream. Nitric oxide is essential for relaxing penile tissues, which is absolutely necessary for erections.
Lowering Cholesterol without medications
The most popular high cholesterol medications are statins. These are crucial drugs that work great and save lives. High cholesterol is extremely dangerous. It could cause heart failure and heart attacks, both of which are often lethal. Still, sex is a very important part of most people’s lives and is very important for mental and physical health.
Unfortunately, statins are known to cause erectile dysfunction as well. So, if you have ED, you may need another cure.
Good news! Diet and exercise has proven to be even more effective than drugs for lowering cholesterol.
Exercise
Cardiovascular exercise, like running, swimming, sports, and bicycling, is fabulous for reducing cholesterol. You get your blood moving quick enough and that cholesterol will just wash away.
Try to get a minimum of 20 minutes a day. Walking is great for you, but if you are trying to lower your cholesterol levels, you have to make sure to get your heart pumping.
Diet
There’s two parts to dieting for cholesterol reduction:
1. Eliminating cholesterol from your diet
2. Eating foods that reduce your cholesterol
Eliminating cholesterol is actually very easy: don’t eat any animals or animal-derivatives. No steaks, no cheese, no bacon. Not even chicken is cholesterol-free.
If you can’t eliminate these things from your diet completely, try to eat them only once a week and exercise on the same day.
It worked for Bill Clinton when medication didn’t, so it can work for you. If President Clinton can switch to vegetables, anyone can.
