The swine flu is a respiratory virus that initially only infected pigs however it has mutated and now is capable of infecting humans as well. It is spread via the air as well as surfaces and is expected to infect as many as half of the US population and as many as 90, 000 people may die from the illness this flu season which is more than double the death that normally occur in a normal flu season.

Because it attacks the respiratory system there are certain people who are going to be at a higher risk of developing the swine flu as well as developing complications from it. Among these people are the elderly, infants and people who already suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma. This is due to the already possibly compromised and weakened respiratory system as well as weakened immune system. What this means is that the symptoms of the swine flu can cause your asthma to be worse than usual and vice versa.
